CALDERHEAD HIGH SCHOOL
in association with Shotts St. Patrick's Amateur Opera Group
Following the success of our last 7 years, we are delighted that Calderhead High School are wiling to continue our Community Arts Project, allowing us to take advantage of the excellent theatre facilities available in the school and bring together children from P5-S6 across our local area.
We are delighted to announce that our 2020 Spring show will be a production of Disney’s 'The Little Mermaid Jr.'
There will be six performances of the show which will run from Wednesday 1st April to Sunday 5th April 2020 (four evening performances and two matinee performances).
Children must be P5-S6 to audition.
To help cover costs of production, each child will be asked to pay £70 to cover the 4 months of tuition as well as helping towards costumes, technical equipment, stage set etc. If you have more than one child in the production, you will pay £70 for the first child, and £50 for each sibling.
PRINCIPAL AUDITIONS - SATURDAY 24TH NOVEMBER 2019
St. Patrick's Parish Centre

5PM-9PM - ***Please only attend if you have been advised by a member of the production
Congratulations! Your child has been selected by the production team to come back for a principal audition on Sunday 24th November from 5pm til 9pm in St. Patrick's Parish Centre. You can drop your child off at 5pm and return for them at 9pm.
Format:
The production team will spend some time going over the audition material with the children, this will be in the form of two workshops: a singing workshop and a dialogue/audition technique workshop. They will then have a short space of time to prepare before coming through for their individual audition. The children will need to remain in the hall until the end of the auditions as we often will pull children back in to hear different songs or hear the dialogue again.
We realise that there is not a lot of time to prepare, and therefore do not expect perfection. We are purely looking for a wee idea of character, accent, acting and singing capabilities.
What you need to do in the meantime:
Children should access the sharepoint (www.tiny.cc/SSPAOGJr) where they will find two folders: Female Auditions and Male Auditions.
As they enter each folder, there will be two songs and lyrics to go along with them. If they could have a listen to them to familiarise themselves with the melodies and lyrics before tomorrow, that would be a great headstart for them - NOTE: We are NOT expecting them to know this off by heart by any manner of means! There shouldn't be any pressure felt by the children to know this off by heart, as we realise the short timescales.
There is also a folder named 'dialogue' where the children will find some different characters' dialogue audition pieces. The children can choose one or two parts to focus on before tomorrow, but we would like them to remain open-minded for the purposes of the audition panel as they will be considered for ALL parts. Therefore, we would ask that they cast an eye over all the dialogue pieces. There is no need to learn this off by heart or print it, we will have some copies available for the children tomorrow.
Please be reminded, again, that we are NOT expecting perfection, just a flair of what they can do and it would be a great headstart if they could have a look at the sharepoint and listen to the audition material before 5pm tomorrow as it can only benefit them coming into audition.
Many thanks!
See you tomorrow!

HOW WILL I KNOW IF MY CHILD HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL?
Parents will be notified by telephone on the same evening of the auditions if your child has been successful.
CAN MY CHILD TAKE AUDITION IF THEY'RE NOT FROM THE LOCAL AREA?
This project is in association with Calderhead High School and as such, is aimed principally at children who live in the Shotts and North Lanarkshire area. We do accept auditions from outwith this area, however when the standard of auditions is extremely high (as it has been in past years), we do consider location due to funding.

FAQS CONTINUED...
IS THERE A LIMIT ON CAST MEMBERS?
Yes. Unfortunately, not all children can who audition can be part of the show. This is due to a number of issues, mainly due to health and safety on the stage. We complete risk assessments prior to auditions to ensure our cast members are safe on stage and this can put a limit on the number of children we can take.
ARE CHILDREN SUPERVISED AT ALL TIMES?
Yes. Your child's safety is of our upmost importance. All children will be supervised by PVG checked appropriate adults at all times in line with our child protection policies.
HOW CAN MY CHILD BE CONSIDERED FOR A PRINCIPAL ROLE?
ALL children will need to audition to become a member of the cast first and foremost. These are the auditions on 23rd November. Principal auditions will be allocated at the discretion of the production team based on your child's cast audition. If successful in securing a principal audition, your child will be asked to come back for call back audition on Sunday 24th November. You will be notified of this at the same time you are made aware of the outcome of your child's cast audition. Your child will be asked to look at either male or female principal audition role material which will be made available on the audition material shared drive after the cast auditions. We will spend time going over this with your child before they audition.
AGE LIMITS
Your child must be in P5-S6 to audition.
